Rafael Nadal did it again, he was crowned the Australian Open men's champion beating number two seed Roger Federer via a five setter 7-5,3-6, 7-6, 3-6, 6-2 game. It was a momentum swinging 4 hours and 22 minutes title match Sunday night. Federer missed the chance to equal Pete Sampras' record of 14 grand slam singles titles.

Rafa is the first Spanish tennis player to win the Australian Open. He beat Federer both on grass and clay court last year and this year he completed it by beating him on hard court, the only missing link.

Rod Laver, a tennis legend was able to win all four grandslam titles in one season. Now Nadal is the only one who can emulate him by winning the first major title. Federer almost did it back in 2006 and 2007 if only he won the French Open but sadly he was toppled down by Nadal for two consecutive years making Nadal the current king of clay.

Will be anticipating more incredible macthes from these two amazing tennis players. But I will be cheering for Nadal for sure.

Team Spain

Team Spain faced host country Argentina in this years Davis Cup Finals, winning the said event for the third time with the absence of world number one Rafael Nadal due to injury. The defeat was Argentina's first lost at home in ten years in its Davis Cup history.

Spain's victory was sealed with the win of Fernando Verdasco over Jose Acasuso. Verdasco won in five sets (6-3 6-7 4-6 6-3 6-1) to give them an unassailable 3-1 lead over Argentina in the final.

Days before the finals Spain's team captain Emilio Sanchez Vicario clearly reiterated that he doesn't want Rafa on the sidelines during the finals. Sanchez Vicario thinks that Nadals presence would be an added pressure to his team mates besides the fact that they are facing the host country's team. The team captain's strategy might have worked, keeping Rafa off the audience made Spaniards concentrate more thus giving them the cup.

One of Spain's basketball player was the young Ricky Rubio. He got my attention while watching the gold medal game against USA's dream team. Aside from his looks, certain facts about his basketball career got me interested. He is said to be the youngest basketball player to have ever played in the Olympics, he is only 17 years old. He was also the youngest player to have ever played in the Spanish ACB league at the age of 14. Born October 21, 1995, Rubio made his Spanish ACB League debut on October 15, 2005. He holds the point guard position for the Joventut Badalona both fot the ACB league and the Euroleague.

Although Rubio has been in the NBA radar since he started playing it is only now that they've given him serious thoughts. Over the years of observing his game they've noticed certain traits in him that makes him a magnificent baller. Despite his young age he has terrific basketball IQ. He is a born leader given his youth and shows a lot of poise.

Hope to see him in the NBA one day..

Spain lost to the US - 118-107
