My beloved Davao City just celebrated its 10th year anniversary of its anti-smoking campaign. The campaign aims to protect Davaoeños from unnecessary exposure to cigarette smoke or second-hand smoking, In this city ordinance it prohibits cigarette smoking in public areas and public establishments Although it does not completely ban people from smoking but the main purpose of the ordinance is to limit public smoking.
The law also entails certain penalty when an individual or establishment is caught not obeying the ordinance. On its 10th year anniversary the city has amended the law by increasing the penalties further make the law more efficient. Although the law did not cause any deterrent in the selling and buying of cigarettes in the city, people can even now buy cigars online, which make it more accessible.
