1976 Montreal Summer Olympics, the 14 year old, first time Olympian Nadia Elena Comaneci wowed the judges, the people in attendance as well as the millions watching all over the world. Nadia made many records that Olympic, during the team portion of the competition, her routine on the uneven bars was scored at a 10.0. It was the first time in modern Olympic gymnastics history that the score had ever been awarded. The scoreboards were not even equipped to display scores of 10.0—so Nadia's perfect marks were reported on the boards as 1.00 instead. She even got six more perfect scores on her way to winning the all around, beam and bars as well as bronze in the floor exercise.
Comaneci was the first Romanian gymnast to win the all around title in the Olympics and the youngest at the age of 14. Since the age-eligibility of gymnasts has been revised from 14 to 16 it's quite impossible legally to break that record.
Nadia became an instant star, generating media attention she was the talk of the town. She was awarded BBC Sports Personality of the Year, Associated Press' Female Athlete of the Year in 1976. Back in Romania, because of her feats she given the highest recognition an athlete can achieve, she was awarded the "Hero of Socialist Labor", the youngest to ever receive one.
