I have not seen Chris Andersen a.k.a "The Birdman" play in the NBA before, not until during the Western Conference finals between The LA Lakers and Denver Nuggets. I have said so many times that I am not a Laker fan and since they are facing Denver my vote goes to them. And if not for that I wouldn't have noticed Andersen. In the past I've always liked basketball players with skills aside from shooting the ball. I admire more those who excel in defense, rebounding and assist. Maybe that is the reason why I love Dennis Rodman and Ben Wallace before.
When I first saw Chris playing and saw how the fans reacted to his way of playing I already knew then there is something special about him. I was so intrigue with the guy specially with the way he does his hair and his body tattoos.
Doing some research about him I learned that he was banned from the NBA for two years due to violation of the anti-drug policy but was reinstated back to the league March 4 last year. Through out his entire NBA career which started in 1999 he has only played with two teams, with the New Orleans Hornets and Denver Nuggets.
Like two other idols Andersen is not really good in long range shooting as well as in free throws. But he has high leaping ability which landed him as one of the contenders in the slam dunk competition in the NBA All-Star games in 2004 and 2005. This ability besides his hairdo gained him the nick name "Birdman".
