X-ray was discovered accidentally by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen, a German Physics professor. He was actually studying Crooke's tube, while passing electricity through the tube in a darkened room he noticed a glow of green light in a screen painted with barium platinocyanide 1 meter away from the tube. And since he has no idea what that light was he named it X-rays.

X-rays' discovery paved the way to the development of other diagnostic and therapeutic modalities utilizing ionizing radiation such as Ultrasound, MRI, CT-scan, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Therapy among others. Without these modalities proper and better diagnosis and treatment of various diseases would have not been possible.
November 8, 1895, a very significant date not just for me but for all of us. As a Radiologic Technologist the day x-ray was discovered is one important milestone. I love my profession and I'm loving it more everyday. I am proud to be a RADTECH!!!
