Have you heard the song “Filipina Girl” by Marcus Davis? The first time I heard that song I felt kinda proud for how he described a Filipina. But then it made me think what has become of the Filipinas today? How has she evolve from the Maria Clara to the modern woman she is now? More empowered and has learned to escape the stereotype – the submissive virgin who follows all the rules.
I read an article last night in Cosmopolitan Magazine about how Filipinas has become too wild. It was emphasized in the article how the Filipinas' views and concepts on sex, drugs and her role in the society has evolved.
In the article they interviewed several Filipina women from students to hookers to successful career women. One by one they somehow gave light to the real the shrouded identity of the new age Filipina. The kind that has learned to adapt to the ways of the women in the western countries. The author explained that while Filipina women are slowly gaining their mark in the male dominated society along with it comes the feeling of being more empowered therefore she feels she can now express her own free will, doing what she wants to do something that the old Maria Clara Pinay doesn't usually do.
Some of the women who were interviewed confessed on having tried and are still hooked on some form of addictive substances. They say they tried it out of curiosity or just to be in in their group. And got hooked because of its effects, more often they would feel a boost of confidence, they are more alive and heightens their emotions.
Other confessions like loosing their virginity at a very young age and having multiple sex partners afterwards. There was even one who said that she has a F*** Buddy, someone she would have casual sex with, no feelings, no strings attached. That was her secret life she said, not everybody knows about it not because she wants to hide but because she knows that the society doesn't accept it. But no matter how society denies that kind of activities' existence it already exists and there is nothing that the society can do about it.
But these ladies eventually realized that their actions has collateral consequences. One got pregnant and performed unassisted abortion on herself. Took abortion pills on her fourth month of pregnancy. She was successful but suffered a lot. She bled for weeks and thought she would bleed to death. The guilt of the abortion she says still haunts her although she is thankful that the guy got her pregnant instead of giving her HIV or any kind of STD. She has learned her lessons the hard way she said. She agreed on the interview and tell her story hoping that her story could somehow help other women out there who were at the same situation as her before.
Their final advice..Its okay to be wild and be adventurous but be sure to know your limits and be responsible. Always think of your safety and be cautious in all your actions.

I really don't care about the race or which country you come from. Either you are a Filipino or an American, it still depends on how your parents raised you like teaching you to be a responsible person with morals, etc.
